How Much Does a Wedding Officiant Cost in Southern California? (2026 Guide)

Planning your wedding in the Inland Empire or Southern California? Here's what you should know about wedding officiant pricing, what you're paying for, and how to find someone who fits your budget and your vision.

What Does a Wedding Officiant Typically Cost?

Let's talk wedding budgets!

Between the venue, flowers, photographer, food, and everything else, those wedding expenses can add up quickly. And somewhere along the way, you realize you need someone to actually marry you!

So how much should you budget for a wedding officiant?

According to WeddingWire, the national average is approximately $300, with many couples spending between $200 and $450. Your actual cost depends on location, ceremony customization, experience, and additional services.

In Southern California, you'll find officiants at a variety of price points. The important thing isn't necessarily finding the cheapest person. It's finding someone who fits your budget, understands your vision, and genuinely cares about your wedding day.

What Are You Really Paying for When You Hire a Wedding Officiant?

Here's something I wish more couples knew.

Your wedding officiant does so much more than stand in front of your guests and say a few words.

I love weddings. I love seeing two people choose each other, celebrate their relationship, and begin their next chapter together.

But I'm also very aware that weddings can be stressful!

Especially intimate weddings where there isn't a wedding planner coordinating all the little details.

That's where I come in.

I'm more than your officiant. I'm your cheerleader, your problem solver, and sometimes the person asking questions you didn't even realize needed answering.

Questions like:

  • Who's walking you down the aisle?

  • Who will be holding your marriage license?

  • Have you chosen your witnesses?

  • When would you like to sign the marriage license?

  • Are there any cultural traditions or family members you'd like recognized?

  • Have you thought through how the ceremony will actually flow?

These might seem like little things, but they can make a big difference on your wedding day.

And sometimes, things don't go according to plan.

I've helped calm a family during a wedding-day health crisis.

I've chased down a DJ to find missing bridal entrance music.

I've climbed a ladder to fix flowers falling off a wedding arch.

And yes, I've even taken photos while officiating a ceremony because the photographer had to leave when the wedding started late!

Were those things technically part of my job description?

Nope!

But when I'm standing beside you on one of the most important days of your life, I want to do everything I reasonably can to help make it wonderful.

That's the kind of care I believe every couple deserves.

Are There Additional Wedding Officiant Fees?

It's always a good idea to ask about travel, rehearsals, and other potential costs before booking.

At The Bari Nook, my ceremony pricing includes travel within 20 miles of Loma Linda, California.

For weddings farther away, the travel fee is $1 per additional mile, calculated using the one-way distance.

For example:

One-way distanceAdditional travel fee15 miles$030 miles$1050 miles$3075 miles$55

I primarily serve couples throughout the Inland Empire, including Loma Linda, Redlands, Riverside, San Bernardino, Rancho Cucamonga, and Ontario.

I'm also happy to travel throughout Southern California, including Temecula, Palm Springs, Orange County, Los Angeles, and San Diego.

Do You Need Premarital Counseling?

Your wedding is one day. Your marriage is the adventure that follows!

For couples who want to invest in their relationship before saying "I do," I also offer Premarital Prep for $435 as a separate service.

This includes four 60–90 minute sessions using the PREPARE/ENRICH assessment, with conversations about communication, conflict, finances, family, and relationship expectations.

Sessions can be faith-based or nonreligious, in person or virtual.

I believe preparing for the marriage is every bit as important as preparing for the wedding.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can we have a nonreligious wedding ceremony?

Absolutely! I offer both religious and nonreligious ceremonies. Your wedding should reflect your values, relationship, and preferences.

Do we have to write our own vows?

Not at all! My Classic Ceremony includes easy repeat-after-me vows. If you want something more personal, my Custom Love Story option includes vow guidance.

Do we need witnesses to get married in California?

For a regular California public marriage license, at least one witness is required, and up to two witnesses may sign. A California confidential marriage license has different eligibility requirements and does not require witnesses.

Does the officiant provide the marriage license?

Couples obtain their marriage license through a California county clerk before the ceremony. I help with the marriage license signing as part of my ceremony services.

Can we talk before booking?

Of course!

I offer a complimentary phone or video consultation so we can get acquainted, talk about your wedding plans, and see whether we're a good fit.

No pressure. Just a conversation about your big day!

Your Wedding Deserves More Than Just an "I Do"

Whether you're planning a backyard wedding in Riverside, an intimate ceremony in Redlands, or a celebration somewhere along the Southern California coast, I'd love to hear your story.

You don't need an enormous wedding budget to have a meaningful ceremony.

You just need someone who cares about making the moment special.

And I would be honored to be that person.
